Decentralized connectivity for massive IoT

Wirepas offers a software solution that can be used on a variety of off-the-shelf radio hardware and wireless modules. Before shipping a Wirepas Mesh enabled device, a software license agreement must be executed with Wirepas.

Flexible hardware-independent architecture

Choose the right radio chipset and frequency band for your application. Wirepas Mesh runs on a broad selection of off-the-shelf chipsets and modules. Operating parameters can be changed to provide tradeoffs between bandwidth, latency, range and power consumption. As all the intelligence is built in to the Wirepas Mesh software the physical layer can be chosen freely according to the requirements.

De-centralized Intelligence

All the Wirepas Connectivity intelligence is in the network. The devices decide the best actions by themselves locally choosing how to make best use of the locally available radio spectrum and energy. No central network controller is needed. The local decision-making ensures that the devices always operate in the most optimized way and allows Wirepas Mesh to scale with massive IoT applications.

Synchronized time and frequency division multiple access (TDMA & FDMA)

The devices access the wireless medium synchronously, co-operatively selecting the times and channels used for communication. All the available channels in a given frequency band can be used. Whenever two devices want to communicate with each other they know the channel and the exact times to send and receive. This way all unnecessary overhead, such as overhearing, idle listening, and intra-network collisions, are removed.

Adaptive multi-hop mesh topology

The devices can communicate data over multiple hops. The topology is optimized continuously and adapts to changes in the environment and the network. For each device there are multiple routing options (next hops), and multiple Gateways (backhaul connection) can be used in the same network. Multiple connection directions are supported: to/from the cloud and device to device in the network.

Homogeneous devices

The devices automatically choose their role according to the situation. This means that every device is a possible routing point for forwarding data. The user does not need to define the roles of the devices, this is done automatically depending on what the optimal topology is at a given time. There are no repeaters, routers or other infrastructure devices in a Wirepas Mesh.
