From the CEO

2017 was a great year for Wirepas. We doubled our revenues, our headcount, our partner ecosystem and the number of licensees. We are ready to make an impact.

For every young company there comes a time when you should let everyone know and feel what you stand for and what you’re capable of. For Wirepas that year was 2017. I am extremely happy and proud of our success.

In 2017 the market sentiment turned more favorable for us, and the mesh technology. It is now generally accepted that there can’t be only one connectivity technology for all the needs in IoT, at least not without risking the functional value for all. Also, it has become apparent that mesh is the right topology for many large-scale IoT applications such as smart metering, asset management, lighting and sensoring.

I feel that we have been able to capitalize the positive market development in our sales and business development. We were able to double our revenues from 2016. At the same time, we have successfully on-boarded new local and global hardware partners. Presently our ecosystem includes semiconductors, radio modules, gateways, devices for all our target applications. End customers can now buy Wirepas Mesh off-the-shelf – which is a key for our scaling.

The thing I am probably most proud of, is the level of talent we were able to attract last year. Our headcount grew with 20 new extremely motivated and talented people. For me this is the best guarantee of our continuing success. Many of the technical people joining Wirepas have a background in mobile communications, and many of them have been part of one industrial revolution since the 90’s.

At the same time, we have diversified our organization by strengthening our application specific Product Marketing in Asset Management, Energy and Lighting. For us all, this is a unique opportunity to be a part of another industrial revolution – the rise of a massive IoT. For me personally, and I believe for many of us, this is a key motivator. We want to achieve extraordinary results, we want to make a positive impact.

Going forward our strategy stays intact. We are 100% focused on mesh network protocol, enabling large-scale IoT deployments, together with our partners.

We will keep on developing our product in a lean and responsive way. Our hardware independent approach frees us to innovate continuously to meet the business requirements now and tomorrow. We have already done what’s never been done before, and we will keep on breaking records. In 2018, we expect to open new offices as well as keep on strengthening both R&D and customer operations.

I want to thank our customers, partners, employees and investors for their support and effort in 2017. It was a great one, and I strongly feel that we have many great years ahead of us.
